Frame Kits

I get questioned all the time about making the board building process more available to those without a shop full of tools, those without access to the numerous board specific materials, those who don't want to take a month or more to build a board...To ignore those issues would not be true to who I am and what I do... Helping others to help themselves...

These days with that crazy thing know as the internet, if someone want a hollow surfboard I see that there are several ways to do it...
1. Invent one yourself...
2. Look at pictures and take notes...Copy...
3. Get a "How To" guide...
4. Get the "How To" and templates...
5. Take a class...
6. Get a kit...
7. Or just pay someone to do it...

Each of those ways offers greater or lesser degrees of difficulty...Similarly, each person is different about where they want to jump into the process...

Since I started on this "no looking back" wood board path, time has introduced other players into the wood board game...Groovy and cool...They are good people with good intent...Each of us is doing things our own way, and each of us have influenced and contributed to a broader diversity of surfcraft...Some more than others, its been said... What they do is their thing...Me, I continue to move forward at my own pace, making better boards for myself, and occasionally others, but my commitment these days is primarily to help others make their own hollow wood boards in Better ways...Easier ways...More cost effective ways...Less wasteful ways...I regularly refine my process and update my "How To' CD...Sharing the discoveries that time and experience have granted me...I'm not stagnant and resting on my past achievements...I'm always looking forward...Designing and building...Testing and refining...Educating and learning... It's who I am...

My philosophy about why to have a Hollow Wood Boards is this: I think that ending up with a really cool LOOKING board is not the best reason to build one...Yeah, it's not about that...That would rate as the third reason to build one... The second reason is the QUALITY of the ride... If I had to paint my boards, covering their natural beauty, just to experience the different FEELINGS you get riding one of these boards, I would...

The MOST IMPORTANT reason to build one is this, it's about finding out about who you are...Huhhh...???...Through the building process there will be epiphanies and serious frustrations...Way more than a foam board ever could offer...How a person goes through those frustrations and reaches their goal, whether it's laminating some wood to make a deck, or fighting a handful of clamps, or spending eternity gluing on the rails...You learn about who you are and why you are doing it...I went though this stuff in my triathlon and ultra-marathon days...Self discovery...Some of you probably haven't a clue to what I'm talking abut, that's fine, enjoy the simple life...I envision a Surftech in your future...I always ask those who build their own boards "...What are the three best reasons to build your own board...???..." 97.856% of the time I get the same 1-2-3 I just mentioned...I thought it was just me...

As I've refined my process, I've found a simpler way to build my boards...Without having to create disposable jigs that take time to build...They work fine, but if I can get a frame built in a significantly shorter time, using less materials, I see that as being a good thing...That way of doing frames is on the current version of my "How To" CD...What I've also done is create a master set of frame parts that I can replicate and offer as "Frame Kits"...The time saving of using a frame kit as opposed to using a "gluing jig" is about five days of early mornings and after work time...That's a lot...

A Frame Kit includes:
The Center Stringer ...The Cross Ribs ...
The Outer Frame Rails ... Nose and Tail Inserts

Assembly time:
Less than it takes to pull off your shoulder entry wetsuit, gloves and booties,
on a hard offshore day in late December in Washington State...

These Frame Kits are available:

5'9" Mini-Simmons Frame Kit - $200

5'10" Fish Frame Kit - $200

Also

All that means is you need to iron on some "wood tape" (supplied) to make the frames what they need to be...

If you get a Frame Kit, I offer the

"How To" CD at half off -

$50

Frame Kits are shipped in the continental USA via good old UPS and cost $30...

International shipping varies depending on destination... Shipping a frame kit to Hawaii, Australia or Europe costs more than it should...Hawaii around $85 , Europe something like $150... Contact me via e-mail if you are interested...

Once I receive your payment, your stuff will be on it's way to you within a week...

For more information e-mail me at hollowsurfboards@comcast.net
Of course I'll answer any questions, should you need help...
